ArborCare-ArborScape Information (Horticultural Oil)
|
What is Horticultural Oil?
Horticulture Oil is sometimes referred to as summer, dormant, or superior oil. They are highly refined oils that have been used since the 1800s to control insects and diseases on trees and shrubs.
Why use Horticultural Oil?
Horticultural Oil is environmentally safe, non-toxic to pets, mammals, birds and children. Unlike other pesticides, when Horticultural Oil is properly applied, it will do its work in less than 10 minutes, leaving no active residue on the plants.
How Does Horticultural Oil Work?
Oils are a mechanical control that works by suffocating insect egg masses laid in the bark and twigs of trees during the winter.
When is the best time to apply Horticultural Oil?
Applied during the dormant season, it’s a good way to reduce insect populations before the season begins, reducing further pesticide use later on. Oils can also be used during the summer season to control other stages of insect growth.
